The origin of skateboarding
Skateboarding is a sport practiced on a board, called a shape, with four wheels and two axles called "trucks". It is considered a radical sport, being one of the best known today. In recent years it has grown and attracted many practitioners as well as sponsors and their championships are increasingly disputed.
The sport was born in California in 1960 and was created by surfers, who did not want to stand still when the tide was low. It was then that they decided to put roller skates under the surfboards so they could ride on the streets. Around 1965, the first skateboards started to be sold, but they were very different from what we see today. In fact, there was only one big straight board with four wheels. Still in 1965, the first championships began to appear.
Gradually the sport evolved, but gained strength in the 90s, when the American Tony Hawk made a revolution with his aerials and flips. Hawk is considered, to this day, the greatest skater of all time.
Nowadays skateboarding is widely practiced both professionally and as entertainment. In addition, this sport generates many benefits, among them: increased strength and concentration, gain in physical and aerobic conditioning, improved balance and motor coordination and, consequently, a healthier lifestyle.
